The seven individual 18th-century buildings were collected into a hotel in the early 1960s. The mostly brick structures?the tallest is five stories--have white wooden banisters and balconies; the second-floor community balcony overlooks Chartres Street, a favorite of street artists and musicians. One of the buildings was once used for slave auctions.
